Regional Vice President – Government Affairs

The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC), has a new opportunity for a Regional Vice President in our Government Affairs Department. This position will effectively represent and advocate for membership interests while working to achieve association advocacy goals and objectives. States covered: Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Arkansas.

Essential functions of the position include:

  • Coordinate and implement issue management for specific advocacy priorities and efforts in assigned states.
  • Develop collaborative working relationships with state insurance trade associations, key state legislators, state insurance department staff, and non-insurance allies on pertinent issues.
  • Manage advocacy communications with member companies on the status of NAMIC strategic objectives in designated states, providing expeditious response to member needs and promoting government affairs priorities and opportunities.
  • Produce and deliver testimony, news releases, speeches, commentary and NAMIC publications as assigned.
  • Promote member participation in NAMIC’s Congressional Contact Program and in the NAMIC PAC.

Qualifications include:

  • Seven to ten years of experience in a government affairs function, legislative setting (staff or lobbyist with direct legislator interaction) or working for a trade association preferred.
  • Experience in issue management required.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Familiarity with NCOIL, NCSL, ALEC, NAIC and other organizations affecting state insurance laws and regulations preferred.
  • Ability to travel as much as 75 percent of the time during peak periods (January to June).
  • Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check and must possess an acceptable MVR.

Employee Benefits Administrator

The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) has a new full-time opening for an Employee Benefits Administrator. This position provides day-to-day benefits administration, customer service, audit, and billing support functions for NAMIC clients.

Essential functions:

  • Provides customer service for covered individuals via telephone and e-mail. Maintains a record of support interactions in our client contact database.
  • Maintains accurate database system records for the various employee health and welfare benefit programs that we offer.
  • Assists with preparation of open enrollment materials and other communications for participating companies.
  • Reviews client enrollments and other submissions for quality assurance.
  • Assists with preparation and dissemination of client invoices, ensures accuracy of carrier billings, and seeks positive resolution of any identified discrepancies.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities needed include:

  • Positive customer service skills including upbeat attitude and the ability to defuse the occasional upset customer with patience and concern.
  • Strong data-entry skills, including 10-key skills.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel and Word skills.
  • Excellent detail orientation and organizational ability.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Professional demeanor.

Qualifications include but are not limited to:

  • Two to three years of employee benefits experience.
  • College coursework or degree preferred, but not required.
  • Prior completion of employee benefits coursework (CEBS, for example) preferred. Must be willing to pursue continuing education to advance understanding of benefits and the latest trends and laws.
  • Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check.

The salary range is $22.05 per hour ($43,000) to $23.59 per hour ($46,000) based on a 37.5-hour work week and relevance of experience.
